About LAKELAND OIL: History

Lakeland Oil had its origins back in 1991 when Ross Gilley arrived in the Okanagan as the local agent for a major oil company (think hockey). Starting with 2 "veteran" trucks in Kelowna's North End near the present-day Prospera Place, Lakeland Oil soon expanded into Penticton, Keremeos, Oliver, Armstrong, Enderby, Lumby, Grand Forks, and finally Revelstoke. At one time, Lakeland Oil served from 7 locations with a team of 31 staff and 13 delivery units.

From 2000 to 2002, Lakeland Oil's parent company strategically sold off its assets and streamlined its method of business. The Kelowna site was old and leased from another party, so the decision was made to close down its Kelowna operations in 2002.

Fast-forward to 2004, and Ross, together with colleagues Kevin Timm and Peter Donald met in Peter's basement with a hunch that a "service deficit" existed in the Central and North Okanagan. On May 1, 2004, we put our hunch into action by taking a truck to Kamloops to purchase fuel for a select few customers.

We're still on our journey, but we're now up to a full-time staff of 5 working 3 delivery trucks, a trailer, and a cardlock.

Our goal remains the same as it was on that first day of May 2004 … to be simply the best in serving our local market.

Nothing else will do.
