Our Products and Services: Frequently asked questions
  • Why should I deal with a locally owned and operated company?
  • We love this question. Over the past number of years the major oil companies have determined they are at their best when concentrating on the big picture issues, like finding the oil, getting it out of the ground, and refining it into usable fuel. The big companies actually prefer not to have to mess with the details of getting the fuel to the people who actually use it. That's where we come in. We know every back road in the Okanagan, and we take personal responsibility for delivering it safely and efficiently into your tank. You pay us with your hard-earned money, and then we turn around and patronize local Valley businesses for most of our services, like truck repairs, tires, and computer services. We believe in investing in the local community, and that extends to worthy non-profits doing good work within the Valley. The only question remaining is, "How can we assist you?"
  • Why are Diesel prices different than Gasoline prices?
  • Two major components of fuel pricing are supply and demand, and both impact gasoline and diesel. While both products comes from the same "barrel" of oil, gasoline demand peaks in summer and diesel demand peaks in winter, so you will generally experience higher gasoline prices in summer and lower prices in winter, when there are fewer passenger cars on the road driving shorter distances. Conversely, diesel usage is higher in winter, largely due to diesel still being used as heating fuel in much of the world. Supply disruptions in either summer or winter will almost certainly increase the difference in price between diesel and gasoline.
  • I need fuel but I don't have storage. What are my options?
  • Perhaps the easiest solution is to come to our site and take advantage of our cardlock service. We bill you twice a month and you never have to worry about security or paying for fuel that sits in your tank. If this doesn't solve your problem, come and talk to us. We specialize in finding innovative solutions to your unique dilemma.
  • How do I qualify for a cardlock card?
  • If you a current delivered customer OR a business operating in the North Kelowna or Lake Country trading area, you may find it convenient and cost-effective to obtain a cardlock card. Aside from gaining access to our most popular products on a 24-hour basis, you may be surprised when you discover how cost-effective your cardlock usage can be. We offer very competitive pricing all year long.
  • From where does the diesel and gasoline in the Okanagan originate?
  • Most of the petroleum fuel in the Okanagan is refined in Edmonton and travels to Kamloops by pipeline, railcar, or truck. From there, trucks bring fuel to our storage on a daily basis. Occasionally, we will bring fuel up from Vancouver as well. The major oil companies operate the storage facilities in Edmonton, Kamloops, and Vancouver. Depending on their supply needs, they may choose to transport product from the U.S. into their storage to supplement the product arriving from Edmonton.
  • Where do your lubricants come from? Do they meet manufacturers specifications?
  • Lubricants are refined in a different process from fuels, and there are fewer lubricant refining locations (than fuel refining) in North America. They are generally simpler to transport and usually originate from the U.S. All of our lubricants meet the strictest trade specifications, and most of them come to us from the Conoco-Phillips refinery in Portland Oregon. Some of it arrives in Vancouver in bulk and is placed into final packaging right here in BC.
  • I think my tank might have water in it. How can I check?
  • Believe it or not, there is a specific paste designed to tell if you have water in your tank. Give us a call at the office and we'll ensure we get some to you, or if you prefer, we can check for you on our next routine delivery.
  • Can I use Diesel fuel in place of Furnace Oil in an emergency?
  • We often get this question late on a cold winter night, and yes, you can use diesel in place of furnace oil in an emergency. A couple of 20-litre "jerry cans" from your neighbourhood service station will usually see you through at least weekend, until we can get to you. When we hear of a runout, you are automatically placed on a priority delivery list. Of course, the best solution is to enroll in our automatic delivery program to eliminate the possibility of a runout.
  • Do I need to use a diesel fuel conditioner with Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel?
  • The current fuel standard is Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel, which provides less lubrication than previous formulations. Unlike older engines, newer diesel engines are designed for Ultra Low Sulphur diesel and do not require the additional lubrication that older diesel engines require. Diesel Fuel Conditioner provides extra lubrication to extend injector life, especially in older diesel engines. Most conditioners also help to clean, add power/mileage and prevent gelling at colder temperatures.
  • What is the Carbon Tax and how does it affect me?
  • The BC government introduced a Carbon Tax was by in 2008 to put a "price" on greenhouse gases and encourage behaviour away from using fossil fuels. It is incorporated into your final price of both diesel and gasoline, and is scheduled to increase in small increments on July 1 of each year. The carbon tax administration is governed by legislation much like any other tax, and fuel dealer are required to collect it and remit to the government.
  • I need some back invoices. How can I get them?
  • Just give Lynn a call at the office and we'll get them right out to you by email, fax, or regular mail.
